Grading Plan

DAILY PARTICIPATION (30%) – P.E. Standards 1-5                                   
2 points per day per quarter = participating in activity. 
Absence(s) - will result in the loss of 2 participation points per absence.        
Minimal Effort- will result in the loss of 2participation points.
Parent Note- will result in a loss of 2 participation points. (Student is still required to dress out).
Doctor Note-student’s grade will be frozen for the duration of the doctor’s note.  (Student is still required to dress out) If the doctor’s note requires student to be excused for a long period of time, alternative placement may be considered.
DRESSING OUT (15%)-
2 points per day per quarter=DRESSING OUT IN THE APPROPRIATE PE UNIFORM
A non-suit: (includes failure to wear the proper P.E. uniform, rips, tears or removal of 
sleeves on t-shirts, wearing of pants under sweatpants and/or graffiti on any P.E. clothes)
Will Result in the loss 2 participation points and a school rule violation will be written. 3 school
rule violations will result in discipline according to school wide guidelines. IE; referral


KNOWLEDGE = WRITTEN WORK (15%) - P.E. Standards 3 & 4
Students are responsible for all handouts given in class.  The handouts will make up their 
notebook, which is due at the end of each semester.  Students are responsible for obtaining all handouts if student is absent, I.S., etc.
There are no make-up tests given in class.  If student misses a test they will receive a ‘0’.   
Student may complete an extra credit assignment to make up missed written work.


SKILLS = TIMED RUNS AND FITNESS TESTS (20%) - P.E. Standard 3
Students earn grade based upon personal goals and effort.  Students have a choice of which 
grade they earn for:

A        -        10 pts - beats previous time                          A - 10 pts - beats previous score
B        -          8 pts -student comes within 5 seconds 
                                 of previous time                                 B  - 8 pts -student comes within 5 of

F        -          5 pts—non-participation (walking)               F - 5 pts-non-participation (walking)
If student is absent or submits a parent note on day of Timed Run, student will receive a ‘0’ 
for that run.  Student may complete an extra credit assignment to make up missed timed run/Prudential Fitness Test.


COUGAR RUN (20%)-P.E. Standard 3
By state requirement, one day each week is set aside for a long distance run.  If the schedule or weather postpones this, it will be done on the next available day.
PROCEDURE:
1.     Have your Cougar Run Score Sheet ready.  If you do not have the score sheet, you may use a piece of binder paper instead, but you will lose one point.  If you make a copy of a cougar run score sheet and use it, no deduction will be made.
  1. Length of run: 20 minutes.
  2. On the signal student may run lap, or run straights and walk turns. Upon completion, teacher or assistant will mark your score sheet.  If student fails to run on straight away, student will not  get credit for the lap.
  3.  Unless student has documentation of physical limitations, students will loose a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 participation points for not running the minimum amount of laps per quarter. See amount per quarter below.
Quarter #1: 5 laps;    quarter #2: 6 laps,    quarter #3: 5 laps,    Quarter #4: 6 laps.
  1. After all students have completed the Cougar Run, they are to record points earned on their P.F.C. and with the teacher.
  2. Cougar Runs can be made up due to absence. Doctor notes used for Cougar Runs will be excused.
  3. There will be two Cougar Runs for Make Up/Extra credit scheduled after school each quarter.  
  4. A walking program will be made available to those students with physical limitations that would prohibit success in this area.
